Takoyaki & Okonomiyaki Cooking ClassSakura Homestyle Japanese Cooking Classes In Kyoto

The Kansai region (Western Japan, or Kinki) is famous all over Japan for its cuisine based on wheat flour, “Konamon” culture. It includes food like Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki and Udon noodles.
It’s said that Kansai people eat at least 1 “Konamon” meal a day. Over 80% of Kansai households have tools for making Takoyaki.
Why is “Konamon” culture so established?
One story says Kansai is a merchant area, so people wanted a snack they could eat fast in spare moments and get back to work quickly. Another story suggests there was a rice shortage after the civil war in the 1860s and flour-based cuisine took the place of a lot of rice dishes.
